2015 Meeting Programs

December 3rd Program Details
Featured Speaker: Mr Lewis Bowling
"Looking Back, Two Hundred Years of Oxford History"

For the December meeting, our featured speaker is Lewis Bowling. The meeting will be December 3, 2015 at 6:30 P.M. in the Conference Room at the Richard H. Thornton Library in Oxford. Lewis will discuss his new book “Looking Back, Two Hundred Years of Oxford History”. Following his remarks, there will be a book signing and books will be available for purchase. This will be an exceptionally timely program as the City of Oxford will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2016.

Lewis Bowling spent his early years on a tobacco farm in Providence, near Oxford, and is a country boy at heart. Lewis spent many hours checking out books from the Richard H. Thornton Library in Oxford growing up, and is a graduate of J. F. Webb High School in Oxford. Earning a bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University, and a master’s degree from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama, Lewis is now an Assistant Professor in the Physical Education Department at North Carolina Central University and teaches part time at Duke University. Lewis writes a history column called “Looking Back” for the Oxford Public Ledger and sports related columns for the Durham Herald-Sun. He is the author of nine books including:“Granville County: Images of America”, “Granville County: Revisited, Oxford NC: Images of America”, and “Granville County: Looking Back”. Lewis is married to Beth Harward Bowling, a retired Granville County teacher.

Please join the members of the Granville County Genealogical Society at 6:30 P.M. on December 3, 2015 in the conference room at the Richard H. Thornton Library in Oxford. Visitors are always welcome and are encouraged to join in this presentation.

All GCGS meetings are open to the public and guests are cordially invited to attend.
