2012 Meeting Programs

March 1st Program Details
Featured Speaker: Dr. Richard L. Taylor

Dr. Richard L. Taylor, Vice President of the Granville County Genealogical Society, will present the program for the March 1, 2012 meeting of the society.  He will discuss mineral mining in and around Granville County, N.C.

Dick, who is a Granville County native, has lived and worked in Oxford all of his life except the time spent in college and medical school in Chapel Hill, N.C. and a tour of duty in the U. S. Navy during the Viet Nam era. He retired from his Family Practice of Medicine several years ago.  Since then he has enjoyed genealogical and local historical research.

In discussing mining in and around Granville County, Taylor will give a brief history of the subject, touching on some mine locations and development.  He will also give some information concerning the status of modern mineral mining in the area.

Please join members of the society in attending this meeting, to be held at 6:30 P.M. on March 1, 2012 in the large conference room at the Richard H. Thornton Library in Oxford, N.C.  All meetings of the society are open and visitors are always cordially invited to attend.

All GCGS meetings are open to the public and guests are cordially invited to attend.
