2007 Meeting Programs

October 4th Program Details
Featured Speaker: Arthur Ray Currin
“Memories of a former Granville County Law Enforcement Officer”

The members of the Granville County Genealogical Society 1746, Inc. will hold their regular monthly meeting October 4, 2007 with Arthur Ray Currin as the featured speaker.

About two years ago, former Granville County ABC Officer and Sheriff, Arthur Ray Currin, talked to the Granville County Genealogical Society. His program was so well received that there has been much anticipation about his return appearance to tell us more of his experiences. He has agreed to come back to give the program for the October 4, 2007 meeting of the society.

Arthur Ray was born and raised on a tobacco farm in the Oak Hill section of Granville County. He attended the local schools before serving in the US Army during World War II as a member of the 7th Army, 103 Infantry Division in Europe. Once the war was over he returned to his family farm in Oak Hill where he has lived ever since. In 1953 he began work in law enforcement as a deputy sheriff. Later he served as the county ABC Officer and still later as Sheriff of Granville County for six years. In total he served for 33 years in Granville County law enforcement. Since his retirement, he and his wife Marie have enjoyed traveling.

Guests and members who miss this program in the conference room at Richard H. Thornton Library at 6:30 PM October 4,2007, will miss a real treat.
